A
Message from the President
Dr. Samir S. Amr
Chief, Pathology Services, Dhahran Health Center; Saudi Arabia
Dear friends and colleagues,
Since its establishment
in 1988 with only 25 pathologists from four Arab countries
attending its first meeting in Amman, Jordan, our Division had
been growing steadily and expanding to most Arab countries. In our
last meeting in Cairo, Egypt, there were over 600 pathologists
from many Arab countries in attendance. One might ask, what is the
secret of this success? There are many factors contributing to
this. First and most important is the support of all of you, which
made this Division a Pan-Arab society of pathology responding to
your needs. Second is the dedication of several members and their
determination in ensuring that the Division keeps running and
holding its annual meetings regularly, adding more activities,
like the Arab School of Pathology, and participation in local or
regional meetings. Third, the high quality of the lectures,
seminars and tutorials offered by the Division. This was achieved
through collaboration with other Divisions or by inviting our
eminent Arab pathologists from the Arab World as well as those
residing abroad. This required building a network of friends and
supporters for the Division along the past 16 years. Last year was
full of activities in which your Division was involved. The 15th
annual meeting in Cairo, held in October 2003, was quite
successful drawing over 600 pathologists. In December 2003, we
held our second tutorial for the Arab School of Pathology (ASP) in
Damascus. Members of our Division contributed significantly to
local meetings. The Sixth Meeting of the Syrian Society of
Pathology held in Hama in July 2003 had Dr Wasim Raslan as a guest
speaker. The second Ibn Sina Congress for Pathology and Cytology
held in Tunis in December 2003 invited Dr Dalal Nemenqani and Dr
Samir Amr, both from Saudi Arabia, as guest speakers. Four members
of our Division were invited guest speakers at Arab Lab 2004,
which was held in February 2004 in Dubai, UAE. Several members of
our Division were involved in establishment of the Arab Maghreb
Association of Pathology in May 2003 in Casablanca, Morocco. I
conclude by stating that our Division is going stronger every
year. Its success stems from your support and dedication. There is
a huge need for education in pathology for both the practicing
pathologists and those in training.. I hope to see you all in our
next meetings in Amman in 2005. |
